The Ideal School To Learn Equine Massage
for The Horse And Rider TEAM

There is plenty of opportunity to work one-on-one with Geary Whiting on a horse using effective Shiatsu techniques. We will go over the various issues that horses’ have that often manifest as behavioral problems or severe debilitating pain issues that keep a horse from performing or completely changing their personality. We will address the techniques that address these physical issues and alleviate them through Equine Shiatsu Massage.

Now included in the program is Canine Massage. This is in addition to the full Equine Massage program. Due to class time constraints Geary will ask students to study the text book prior to class and to be prepared with questions. Canine massage alleviates many muscular and neural issues with man’s best friend.

Why is it important to work on BOTH horse and rider?

Watch the video below as internationally recognized horse trainer Susan Watkins & Geary Whiting discuss the importance of the horse and rider team concept.

Common Problems Addressed By Equine Massage

Non Compliance

  • Resistant To The Bit

  • Girth Discomfort

  • Lead Changes

  • Cold Back

  • Forward Impulsion

  • Limited Flexibility

  • Tracking Unevenly

  • Reaction Times

  • Fevers

  • EPM

And many more

After observing both horse and rider in action at many rodeos and other horse events, I could see not just horses had problems but the riders as well. I noticed riders with neck and back problems, headaches and in poor physical shape. Tylenol and aspirin are a way of life for many of these athletes. I then realized many of the problems in the horse’s performance were due to the rider’s physical limitations. So I started working with riders only to see them enjoying their sport more because of how well they felt.

I feel my school is unique because it addresses both horse and human performance problems through weight training, massage, and nutrition. Being in the fitness business since 1963, I strongly feel a fitness program for students is very important to their future as a  Equine Massage Therapist. To do a thorough job on a horse, it requires strength and stamina.

I have also learned that if school is fun, people always learn better. As you read my course outline you will see my school is just that, fun.  Also you will notice, this is not your typical 9-5 school. Our days begin with breakfast and end in the late evenings. Experience has shown me that much valuable knowledge comes forth In relaxing fun times after the class of over at dinner. This will be more than a school…it will be an experience.

I’ll see you at school!
Happy Trails padnas,

Geary Whiting

A Horse Massage Program that will Change your Relationship with Horses.

When thinking about attending an Equine Massage program, most likely you are thinking…I’m going to learn how to massage a horse. Have you ever given thought that you may be learning how to not be fearful of being around horses?

Speaking from experience when the horse joins up with you, you will not just feel empowered, you will feel as if you own the world. I speak from my personal experience working on my first horse when adapting Shiatsu Massage from human to horse in 1995,  and that of my students who had none to little confidence around horses. When I say Geary Whiting’s Equine Massage School for Horse and Rider will change your life…I MEAN IT! Read what my students say.

What we Cover in the Program

1 - EQUINE & HUMAN NUTRITION
This is valuable information! In this chapter, we cover 134 health problems horses face. We address what causes them, how to address them, and how to prevent them. We also cover human nutrition from Vitamin A to Vitamin U as well as natural minerals, what they do, and what foods provide them.

2 - MASSAGE & STRETCHING TECHNIQUES FOR HORSES
These very thorough and complete techniques are illustrated as well as covered in my video.  You will spend a lot of time practicing and perfecting your techniques.

3 - HOOF CARE

No foot, no horse! This chapter has diagrams, articles, and a better alternative to metal shoes. Based on the interest I receive from my students on this subject, I feel you will get a lot out of this section of the program. Please go to swedishhoofschool.com for interesting videos showing impact and how it affects the Coffin Bone.

4 - EQUINE PERFORMANCE

You will become acquainted with fitness and training techniques, common problem areas of stress, and injury from training and performance. You will also find an excellent article on trailering your horses from a study done at the University of California, Davis.

5 - ANATOMY
Over the years I have started to put less emphasis on memorization of the anatomy and more on the treatment itself. Still, it is good to have a working knowledge of horse anatomy. So...it is time to color your own horse and have a little fun and relaxation as well as understanding the function of the muscles.

6 - HOW MUSIC AFFECTS BOTH HORSE & HUMAN
This is a very informative and interesting study into how music affects strength, attitude, and performance. You will learn about what we call “The Anapestic Beat.” This a beat contrary to that of the heart. With proper understanding, both you and your horses will greatly benefit.

7 - HUMAN MASSAGE (Shiatsu)

In this chapter, you will learn my style and techniques for humans. You have a video, diagrams, and an explanation of how and where to treat. You will learn what meridians are as well as how to get rid of a headache. Yes, a video is included in this section. You may be asking, "Why would I want to be studying human massage?" Even though you will not become certified in human massage, nonetheless, you will have a great gift to help others, your family, and your friends. Breaking into the Equine massage field will have its challenges, and if you can help the owners and trainers by getting rid of their nagging issues, you will have an open door to the horses.

8 - FITNESS & CONDITIONING FOR THE RIDER

There are many fitness programs available if we only would do them. I know there are many ways of getting fit, but I have given you a favorite one of mine because it gets quick and effective results without injuries. However, it does not mean it is easy! You will also have a program and a video showing how to use the techniques.

9 - Marketing

We will be setting up a website and a brochure for you to start marketing yourself. Click here.

Example Schedule:

Monday - Book work.

Tuesday and Wednesday – Hands-on with horses.

Thursday - finish the horses and do a video presentation for your marketing and personal improvement.

Friday - Question and answer/marketing

This is a very comprehensive program! It is also worth 60 CE’s for those who need to update their required education for human massage.
